The Future of Shiba
Wednesday, August 15, 2007
It does look grim, to say the least. We were able to bring her home last night and the doctor gave us a prescription for Fentanyl patches. Then total so far was about $500.00. I have my own appointment with a new doctor this morning and then I will stop by to see what can be recommended for constipation. Knowing same things about pain medications, I am assuming that Fentanyl causes this as well.Euthanasia of Animals
Of course, my roommate had to ask what would needed to be done when the time came that she needed to be put to sleep. Dr. Fordham was fantastic as ever, explaining that we could come in at any time. He would put a catheter in her, and give her an IV. As soon as we were ready, he would give her some medicines that would basically put her to sleep.Of course during this entire conversation, Shiba was in the room, whimpering and I know probably understanding everything he was saying. That was not helping at all. Shiba has been the smartest dog I have ever had. I talk to her like a human being, i.e. "Want to go get the mail?" She gets up and goes to the front door with me. She likes to go in the front yard without her leash on.
I let her know when I am going up in the morning to take a shower, and she gets up to come up with me. She usually follows me from room to room during the day.
I have not figured out what might be the best not knowing when or knowing. Of course, this all started out with her "reverse sneezing" as Dr. Fordham described it.
Shiba and Suki getting some rest last week.
Remember, Shiba is part Shiba-Inu and German Shepherd. Suki is a full-bred Akita. Shiba has always been very intelligent - taking care of me when I had hernia surgery last year (she would only leave my bedside to go to the bathroom and demanded her food be brought up).
